I can do this, you see, because I have a very eclectic blog!
I was just chit-chatting with Fimnora Westcaw over at Quantum Hermit about Celtic music. Reminded me of Celtic Thunder, a group I love. One of my favorite songs by them is called Christmas 1915. Just couldn’t resist sticking it on here to share.
And if any of you don’t KNOW what this song is about, this video, which was Sainsbury’s (a store in England) Official Christmas 2014 ad is absolutely wonderful. Please watch. It really was a small Christmas miracle in the middle of an ugly war.
Such a fine mix of voices, and such a powerful message. I blogged just yesterday about the power of musical expression. The Celtic Thunder vid reinforces that well. Thanks for posting that!

I’m glad you liked it. It always amazes me that even when they changed members they can get that same pure blend from them. And I surely agree about the power of musical expression. If our sense of smell brings the most vivid recollection of memories, I’d have to say music would provide the second. Maybe even the first for me. Thanks for stopping in!

I had never heard of Celtic Thunder – what beautiful voices those men have!
The story of the Christmas truce I heard about when I was a child, and have wished ever since that such miracles could put an end to all wars. The Sainsbury’s ad captures this truce so perfectly and certainly brought tears to my eyes.
In my country (which is perceived to be the most violent country that is not actually at war) I feel like we are living in a war zone. Recent xenophobic attacks on foreigners from other African countries have left us reeling for the second time since the last xenophobic attacks in 2011, and sometimes the weight of all that hatred weighs me down. Why can’t people just concentrate on the similarities between us instead of the differences…?
I love your eclectic blog – thanks for this wonderful post!

Hi Susan! I know what you mean about how all that hate wears you down. I stopped watching the news and reading the paper a long time ago, and it’s been a year now since I read any kind of news articles on the internet. I was becoming so paranoid. And of course that’s all the media focuses on. I just figure if there’s something I needed to know his lordship will tell me. I know, that’s a cop out…
Sad thing is, that’s all pretty overt as far as making me anxious, but I’ve found that you can’t get away from pain. There’s so much covert hurt and misery just within those around me. I’ve come to the conclusion that everyone carries a story around inside them that if you knew it, you’d be heartsick for them. We just all have become so adept at wearing masks.
Pain and violence seem to be everywhere. It takes an enormous amount of energy to not be consumed by it. I remember talking to my dad about one of those violent episodes that was going on at the time and he said to me, “I don’t want to hear about it anymore. I’m too old to do anything about it now, and I just want to die with some peace.” He was maybe 72 at the time. I didn’t understand it then, but the older I get, the more I’m starting to feel like he did.
(Well that was a novelette! rolls eyes…) Thanks, as ever, for stopping by. Hope to read more from your blog soon!

Tears here. And so beautiful! Plus the visuals. Ooooooooo GEESE!!! I love geese! Hearing them, seeing them fly… I found a secret lake last fall where many gathered to rest before moving on toward their winter homes!
Here is another SG I love! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69J4Br3pKGI
Also Dawn of a new century! I wrote poems and more poems listening to Secret Garden. When we first moved into the little mobile home, the SG CD was our only on out and we listened to every morning at breakfast, so now when we hear it, we’re reminded of those days. 🙂

That one’s nice, too. I have three of their albums, but I don’t think that’s on any of them. Not sure which ones they are. Did I ask you if you get to watch Outlander on Showtime? I think I did and you said no? Well, this is the opening credits to the show with pictures. I love the Skye Boat Song.

I ADORE Secret Garden. I didn’t think anyone else was aware of them except me and Barbara Streisand! She’s who I heard about them from. My favorite album of theirs is White Stones. My favorite neoclassic piece of music is from them, It’s Appassionata. The crescendo in the middle of the piece had me in tears the first time I heard it. (My favorite classical piece is actually Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini by Rachmaninoff.)
