South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has called for the removal of the Confederate rebel flag from state house grounds. It was the only flag that did not fly at half mast in recognition of this past week’s shootings at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. The removal of the flag will require a passing of a state law.
“Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.”–Alexander Stephens, Vice President of the Confederate States of America, March 21, 1861.
I remember the first time I saw an African American person. At least I think I do. I was in kindergarten. We had a young boy in our class named Adolf, who was the lone black face in the sea of white. We’re talking suburban, white bread, Utah in 1983. My memories don’t generally go back much further than that.
Interestingly enough, I don’t remember Adolf because he was black. I…

Even well meaning stupid remains stupid. It exists and comes in all flavors of people. Lord save us from mass stupid. Ignorance can be fixed. Stupid is a long term proposition.

Well said! It seems good education can’t permeate that shell of stupidity…

What passes for education many times is indoctrination.

You’re in a good place/situation to observe that fact. Do you find it’s a real problem, then? Do you see more indoctrination than education?

If you step way way back and look at what the public schools produce it seems to have little to do with creating a people who can think for themselves. It basically teaches small children to sit when they are told, move in lines when you are told to and memorize how to view the world. If you get out of line you are medicated. The older grades contiune along the same lines with little to no opportunity to seek ones own particular gifts and interests. Algebra and higher math as it it taught is useless for the majority of students who are not bent that way. If there was concern for the student after learning to read and do basic math they should focus on their area of gifting and interest. But I think is about creating good workers not educated people. The best thing to teach in the early grades would be the mechanics of meditation apart from any phlosophy.
The current discourse in the world is polarized and an illusion. Generally it is polarized between the “conservative” and the “progressive liberal.” This or that, black or white, gay straight, etc. Both impulses are about control and not freedom for the individual under god. Education programs people to see only a narrow view of people as groups, statistical means and modes. An average nor a group has a soul.

I couldn’t help but think of your philosophy of “BOTH’ when I read that last paragraph. You figure every state is guilty of playing by their own rules that way?

Ever since one wanted to rule another they have been finding ways to manipulate and brainwash them to do their work and will while claiming divine right. Really nothing new except the technology has made the world smaller and within their grasp
