`
“What the hell is wrong with YOU today?”
It’s usually me who is on their cases:
Please don’t leave the cupboard doors hanging open.
Can you turn off the lights when there’s no one in the room?
Push your chair up to the table when you’re done
eating please.
How about pulling the screen door shut or every fly
in the neighborhood will be in here.
Generally it goes in one ear and out the other,
and I end up following them around and
doing it myself anyway.
I’ve said these things so often they
don’t hear them any more.
Why do I bother?
Today I got the milk out and left the fridge
door standing wide open.
Walking into the kitchen my husband
gave me a strange look as if to say,
“What the hell is wrong with YOU today?”
Apparently it’s odd behavior when I do it,
but perfectly normal for everyone else.
Is there something wrong with me? I wonder.
The cheap silver tea service that I’ve always
loved to polish despite the bargain basement price
sits nearly black in the dusty china cabinet.
The tablecloths I change with the seasons
lie neatly folded in the cedar chest,
the Christmas one having just been replaced
on July 2nd because my brother was coming
for a visit and I didn’t want him to think
I was just plain lazy.
The silk flowers scattered here and there
throughout the house are last season’s, too.
Except for the urn-shaped basket in the
bedroom that holds last October’s autumn leaves.
And the white-board calendar on the
front of the fridge is still labeled with
February’s days and dates.
“What the hell is wrong with YOU?”
he might have asked.
I wonder if it’s ever occurred to him I
just don’t give a shit anymore.
Even worse, I wonder if I ever will.
At least that’s how I feel today…

That is brilliant, how often does that happen to so many of us. When we. women as it turns out, try to make a point it is as you say “what’s wrong with you” or in my house with two grown Sons, I am afraid I have totally spoilt, “What’s your problem”. Thank you for the laugh.

Spoilt them, right. Boys are always closer to their Mothers and Mothers love their Sons too much. We think of them before ourselves until its too late, yet would we be without them NO. Mine 30 plus more like 20s in looks (lucky them) but still the MEN in the house?

I SO get that! So when a certain person in this house reminds me I left the light in the hall on, I just say, back at ya… I hand him my shoes, and tell him he’s got a long way before he’s reached a mile in them.

Oh Lord. I’m so with you on this one! I sat hubby down yesterday and told him he needs to start hearing me when I talk to him. Told I felt my voice wasn’t important to him anymore. He got his nose slightly out of joint but said he’d do better.

Sending you hugs my friend. It does sound like a bad case of same ole same oles, and a day trip or overnight might be just what you need. Remember the time I did my solo adventure day? Maybe this would be a good time for you to try a day just pleasing yourself. xoxoxoxoxo

I’ve got a $50 bill someone sent me — I have NO idea who, and a Barnes & Noble gift card. Do you think I can find anything I want to spend either of them on? That’s really weird. And I am going through something in the physical realm, too. I got my hair cut today and Sandy said, Gee, it feels like your hair’s gotten a lot thicker. Now what the heck is THAT all about??? (I really need a rolls eyes smilie…)

Oh good! Does that mean I can leave it TOTALLY blank? It’s a pain in the butt to fill it out anyway! That would be a stress relief in itself.

I definitely vote for a nice long vacation. It could have two results, among others. May make them appreciate you more and who knows, it might make you appreciate the life you have more! The reverse of that coin is that you might find something you like better–and then. Hmmm. Well, cross that bridge when you come to it. How old are your kids?

LOL Probably the most I can manage is an over nighter in Salt Lake with my partner in crime! Then Lord Drollery and I are supposed to go off for the weekend to vineyard country in Idaho for the weekend after the 25th of this month with our her and her hubby. They’re a little traumatized by a wedding happening on the 25th. Finally his lordship and I will be flying off in September to meet our new granddaughter, Lydia Rose in Maryland. So we do have some things planned.

Sounds like some fun times. I think perhaps your lament was a momentary or one day funk and not a perpetual one. I had a day like that on Friday. By Saturday, everything looked better, now today i write this dirgelike poem, but probably by tomorrow I’ll be my old teenage self! ????

I figure we’ll make it to our 45th anniversary (April 2017), but beyond his retirement at the end of that year it’s a crap shoot! I might just do him in! You may end up writing me at the state hoosegow at that point! 🙂

I think everyone gets the blues and loses the will with things sometimes, I think the best thing to do is to have a break from it if you can, be it a holiday or just someone else doing it. However, that is just personal experience, and I appreciate that it can not be possible to take a break, so sorry if my thoughts won’t work.
All the best, Matt

You are absolutely right, my friend. That right there is why I think I need a vacation. Preferably away from these yay-hoots so they have to fend for themselves for awhile! There are those two old sayings people love to throw around, you know: absence makes the heart grow fonder; out of sight, out of mind. I guess to take a vacation without them would be like a coin toss, wouldn’t it? 😀 LOVED your suggestion. I may have to take it to heart! {{{Matt}}}
