The High Kings
The High Kings is an Irish folk group formed in Dublin in 2008 by Celtic Woman manager Dave Kavanagh. The band consists of Finbarr Clancy, Brian Dunphy, Martin Furey and Darren Holden. By February 2015, the group had released three studio albums, two live albums, and two live DVDs. All of their studio albums appeared at number three or higher on the Billboard world music chart, the first two went platinum in Ireland, and all their albums charted in Ireland.
After the release of their first album, the new group moved from a highly staged format to a more natural performance style. Since the inception of the band, The High Kings has toured Ireland, the United States, and Europe on multiple occasions. Together they play thirteen instruments during their performances. The group’s motto is “Folk ‘n Roll,” and their singing is especially noted for its close harmonies. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.)
This is one of my favorite Celtic/Irish groups. They just happened to open for Celtic Woman when we saw them in Salt Lake and we were smitten! They reminded me a lot of The Irish Rovers who were popular in the ’60’s. This song is one of their traditional ballads, but they can get pretty rowdy on stage, and the audience loves them! If you like Celtic music, you’re bound to like these guys.
Don’t how I went this long without hearing of this group. Thanks for a wonderful introduction!

Oh!!!! you’ve brought a time back when I used to listen to these songs all the time! (I still do listen when they come up on my playlist)… My mother’s favorite group was The Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem. When I heard the first notes from The High Kings, I was right back listening to them! My own favorite was The Wild Colonial Boy:
Thank you for this thrilling trip down memory lane!!!

Looks like they’re even wearing the same sweater almost!!! LOL They do sound a lot like them. Their accent is not quite as thick as The Clancy Brothers. I’ve listened to things by the TCB over the years. Have a few mixed-artists albums. Glad you liked it!!!

Ah, those Irish lads and their cable knits! 🙂 I’ve a whole TCB playlist on audio tape. At some point I’ll get it copied over to mp3.
