Sarah McLachlan
Sarah Ann McLachlan, OC, OBC (born January 28, 1968) is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter, and pianist. Known for her emotional ballads and mezzo-soprano vocal range, as of 2009, she has sold over 40 million albums worldwide. McLachlan’s best-selling album to date is Surfacing, for which she won two Grammy Awards (out of four nominations) and four Juno Awards. In addition to her personal artistic efforts, she founded the Lilith Fair tour, which showcased female musicians on a scale that had never been attempted before. The Lilith Fair concert tours took place from 1997 to 1999, and resumed in the summer of 2010. On May 6, 2014, she released her first album of original music in four years, titled Shine On. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.)
This week I’m featuring McLachlan’s song Angel, but with a twist. The song was actually written about the Smashing Pumpkins touring keyboard player Jonathan Melvoin, who overdosed on heroin and died in 1996. Since then Angel, which was a huge hit for her, has been interpreted in many inspirational ways. In an interview I watched (and failed to get the link to!), McLachlan said it didn’t bother her at all that people found comfort in the words and used them however they fit their needs.
The twist? Instead of posting a video of Sarah singing, I’m posting a video of the winner of this year’s So You Think You Can Dance competition (which I’m crazy about!) that just wound up last night. Her name is Gaby Diaz, a tapper and a whole lot more! The video features Gaby and Robert Roldan dancing to McLachlan’s Angel. Gaby is the addict, and Robert is the angel. It was absolutely beautiful. Hope you enjoy it!

Really love that song, and of course, SYTYCD has always been a favorite of mine, when I had TV. This, as always, is a most excellent event! 🙂

Thank you for opening my mind to new talents. Not a dance fan, but that was great. I will check out Sarah McLachlan.

It just amazes me how you can tell a story through such a short dance piece. I mean I’m a real Swan Lake fan…

Swan Lake was the first ballet my mother took me to see…

I’ve been surprised that any one knew of Secret Garden. I usually get, do you mean Savage Garden? I heard about them through Barbara Striesand (sp?).
