Wand’rin Star

So earlier in the week his lordship and I were watching TV when we saw a commercial with a familiar favorite tune of Lord Drollery’s from many years ago. He’s been humming it all week now so I thought it only fitting to dedicate this week’s Sing-a-long to him. It’s the song Wand’rin Star from Paint Your Wagon. (I confess I did NOT know Paint Your Wagon had been a Broadway musical before it became a film!)

Paint Your Wagon is a 1969 Western musical film starring Lee Marvin, Clint Eastwood, and Jean Seberg. The film was adapted by Paddy Chayefsky from the 1951 musical Paint Your Wagon by Lerner and Loewe. Set in a mining camp in Gold Rush-era California, it’s a comical classic love triangle where one woman decides she can have two husbands, and mayhem ensues! We loved the music, and hearing Clint Eastwood sing. THAT was a surprise. One of the most popular songs from the musical may be more familiar, however. They Call the Wind Maria was sung by the miners and Broadway actor Harve Presnell. In my opinion, Lee Marvin was the star of this movie. His character was hilarious. (If you want to cut right to Lee Marvin singing it’s at 1:12.)
