It’s time for Fimnora’s Monday Music Medicine Show again! This week Fim has a Thanksgiving special. She wants to know what songs we associate with Thanksgiving!
So my beautiful Monday Music Medicine Show friends, when it comes to Thanksgiving, regardless of where you’re living, or when you have a day to give thanks, what comes to mind? You know I want to hear it! Share it there (your own blog with a ping back), or share it here.
I racked my brain trying to think of a song related to Thanksgiving that I would identify with. For me Thanksgiving always brings back memories of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. (You probably won’t want to watch all two hours of this! Just put it here to give you a little taste of what always excited me.)
`
But suddenly it dawned on me there WAS a song I related to Thanksgiving — though it’s NOT a Thanksgiving song! After dinner every Thanksgiving no matter which house we were at (my sister’s, or ours) there’s one movie we all settled down to watch before we had dessert. From the time they were small our kids all crammed in next to each other on the floor in front of the TV while us adults cuddled up together on the couch with each other and a few bottles of wine, and we all watched Chevy Chase’s Christmas Vacation. We’ve been doing that for the last 25 years, as soon as it was released on VHS tape. (The film has achieved three home video releases, the first VHS and Laserdisc in early 1990.)
So the song I have related to Thanksgiving since 1990 is actually Mele Kalikimaka (Hawaiian Christmas Song). Enjoy!

Oh yes, I remember the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! Somewhere after we actually were permitted television in our house, we did always see the TGD Parade, and the March of the Wooden Soldiers. I don’t recall anything more, as it was KP for me.
Was that National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation?
Thank you for all the memories! {{{{Calen}}}}

I knew that. I never hear my friend Serge talk about it. Do they not do anything special in your neck of the woods to celebrate?

I haven’t either, but I remember scrambling out of bed to see it so excited. It’s one of the few holiday memories I DON’T associate with food! Strange…

I feel like I should miss the Macy’s parade. But maybe I saw enough of them? But Bing…yeah, miss him. And Chevy!

Yay! Someone else who likes them. My favorite Being Crosby show is “White Christmas” hands down. I think I have all the dialog from that movie memorized. 😀 But this is my favorite Chevy show. What do you do for Christmas, BF?

Xmas is just another day at work in this part of the world. You might hear Bing in a supermarket, someone might have decorations or a tree. Me and Duncan watch Miracle on 34nd Street

The ORIGINAL version I hope! I thought the remake sucked. Who would want to imply that Santa was a pedofile???

Beats me. I found that to be really tasteless. Somethings you just can’t make any better. “And maybe I didn’t do such a good thing,” he says, looking at Chris’s cane standing by the fireplace. 😀

My daughter and her whole family remember and quote lines from movies. I can’t remember what I ate for breakfast.

I’m freakin old, lady. Old as in antique. Old in older than you. But I have a young voice. And mind. Well, the mind may be infantile.

Naw… You’re not older than me. And as to the mind, don’t ever lose that infantile nature! It’s what makes you such a wondrous blogger. {{{BF}}}

Moi? Why I’d never dream of doing such a thing. 😀 I’m flattered, however, that you assume I think that fast on my feet. LOL
