Boy howdy! Fimnora was on a roll this week over at Quantum Hermit’s Monday Music Medicine Show! And she wants to know:
So my beautiful Monday Music Medicine Show friends, if it pleases you to play, share with us: songs from a memory, and then from today, and finally from a collection you don’t always play.
Well let’s see. First a song from my memory. There’s one I can think of in particular. I loved it when I was still too young to really appreciate the richer Christmas music I later came to love. I loved it because I always loved the excitement of going Christmas shopping! The hustle and bustle, the decorations, the lights… It’s an oldie but a goodie. This video is from the film The Lemon Drop Kid (1951) in which it was first introduced. I saw this black and white movie with Bob Hope and Marilyn Maxwell many times as I was growing up. The song is Silver Bells.

And then we need one from today. That would have to be Michael Crawford singing Oh Holy Night. Here he is with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

That leaves a song from a collection I don’t always play. Actually I don’t have a recording of this anywhere, but I think it’s such a beautiful, tender song. I fell in love with it when I was TRYING to learn to play the piano! This is the Norman Luboff Choir singing the Austrian Christmas carol Still, Still, Still.

We’re all done, but I’m adding my favorite Christmas song. It’s firmly settled in my heart because of all the candlelighting services we’ve attended on Christmas Eve. There is just magic in watching that candle flame being passed from person to person. The same flame growing to include us all. The same love being lit in our hearts. Standing there in the candlelight and singing this song conjures up feelings of belonging and peace for me. The song is Silent Night. This is a video of the group Celtic Woman.

Thanks for the holiday concert my friend. I especially loved the clip of the original Phantom singing with my fav, TSO. What a great combo! Merry Christmas to you and yours and I hope you have a wonderful new year. xoxoxox

Hey my dear old friend. How long has it actually been now that we’ve known each other? Good grief. I just want you to know that I’ve put an MP3 player on my Christmas list (well, that WAS my list) so I will finally be able to listen to the updates without sitting still and falling asleep! 🙂 We went to TSO’s Christmas concert three years ago. Had to wear my sunglasses through the whole thing! My niece Holly is working on becoming an intern with them. That’s her dream job. She has a degree in lighting. She’s out at Disneyland working right now in World of Color or something. Please tell Mark I miss hearing him, too, and give him a big hug for me. You two rock! Have a beautiful Christmas Laurie. Love you. ❤ And thanks for all your support.

Oooo then you will love the Holiday update. Mark was brave enough to actual write and read on mic a story in the manner that we do in writing group. I think we’ve known each other going on maybe 15 years? The current update has my actual comedy club bit in it (bleeped for PG purposes LOL) Sending good vibes for Holly, that IS a cool dream for sure, and I hope it comes true for her. xoxoxoxox

I felt a little lopsided on the “religious” music, but I think it’s the actual music itself that draws me. Not many secular songs do. Of course there’s always “Christmas Shoes” that makes me dissolve in a heap of tears! (rolls eyes…)

Silver Bells has been a favorite of mine. When we moved upstate, we were near Poughkeepsie, so I always substituted that for “It’s Christmas time in the city…” It made it feel more current 🙂
I have a favorite version of O Holy Night, but it’s a midi. I can’t find it on Youtube. I’d gotten it from a 3D community I belonged to years ago.
I never heard “Still, Still, Still.” It sounds very pretty.
I’ve always been fond of Paul Simon’s “Silent Night.”
Great choices, great voices 🙂

Ok! Gotta go pull Simon’s “Silent Night” up. I’ve never heard it!

I realized when I pulled that up just now that I had, indeed, watched it. I remember being quite moved by it.
