Oh my gosh! This is a Monday Music Medicine Show that is right up my alley. I’m going to have to piggy back on Fim’s post because hearing the first few moments of the theme from the new Star Trek movie, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, when it came out in 1979 had me actually in tears.

I fell in love with the TV series when it debuted in 1966 and NEVER got over the thrill of the music. And seeing the Enterprise for the first time since the series was cancelled in 1969, well, I can’t even begin to explain how my heart pert near exploded right out of my body as I watched it come up on the screen. Since then the composer, Jerry Goldsmith, has become one of my favorite composers.

`

`Even so, there is another soundtrack that can rush me through so many emotions that I relive the entire trilogy of movies every time I hear it. It’s the theme music from Lord of the Rings by Howard Shore.

I was privileged to be at the Hollywood Bowl the night Williams performed that score for the first time in public. I will never forget sitting there with tons of fans from TORN (theonering.net). It was one of the highlights of my life. (In Dreams: The Breaking of the Fellowship by Edward Ross is included at the end of this video.)

Just sitting here now and watching the video brought it all back. I think I’ve seen those movies so many times that I have the expressions on everyone’s face in every scene memorized. Watching it just now made me all teary again. Music is about the only thing that does that for me. (Oh, a good poem now and then! 😀 )
