Morning! Last week’s Sandbox Writing Challenge was a surprise since most of us ended up writing some kind of poetry or prophecy. That was the first challenge that’s moved me to try that. Some of you have already gotten brave enough to tackle being really artsy. It was fun. 😀
I’d have to look back and see, but I’d guess that most of those messages had some “future” element to them. This week, however, we’re backtracking again. Roberta Allen’s book wants to know:
`
`
`
`
`
`
What are you holding onto from the past?
`
`
`
`
`
I imagine everyone of us has a laundry list of things we could put under this heading, but do some serious thinking and come up with one or two items or incidences you perpetually find yourself regretting.
The book has another review just before this chapter, but I’m wondering if it would be better to just do an overall review at the end? Thoughts?
Still, in preparation for the next part of the book there will be an extra Loosening Up exercise on Thursday, just to get your mind racing before we tackle the new section next week. As you know from the past two, they’re kind of no-brainers. Or ARE they? Hm…
As always, remember to include the link to this post on YOUR blog post. Or if your response isn’t overly long, feel free to leave it in the comment section below. And please feel free to interpret the prompt however you wish: memoirs, poems, pictures, etc.
If you would like to see the previous prompts, they’re listed in the menu at the top of the blog in The Sandbox Writing Challenge. But please feel free to just jump in wherever we are at the moment! After all, the prompts are really for YOU to get to know YOURSELF. (Posts from past prompts you wish to tackle will always be added to the current week’s challenge page.)
In the meantime, drag out your sand bucket and shovel and see what you can dig up for this challenge!

76infermo said it right. We need to declutter our lives the same way we declutter our homes.

I really liked Richard’s answer as well. So often, “holding onto something from the past” is viewed negatively: that your problems would all be solved if you could just “let go” of whatever “baggage” is “dragging you down” or “holding you back.” But I think some balance and nuance are needed when viewing the past. We need roots too. There is value in not letting everything go.

You know, this is a lesson I’m learning relatively late in life. Sometimes I think my journey would have been a lot smoother had I been more aware of exactly what you both said. Thanks, Karen.

The ‘review’ before this chapter is for the last section? If so, I’m for waiting until the end, and just checking in on my posts and answering the review for the last two sections. I’m trying to remember the review from the last section, but it’s not coming to me. How did we do on that one?
What do you think?

It just asked the same questions as the other review. Were you surprised by anything, which one did you feel was the most important for you, do you feel like you need to write more about any of them… And yeah. It was just for 17-26.

What are you holding onto from the past?
A short answer is my life, memories, and love.
Life has shown me the dos and don’ts. Lessons I need in order to survive in the present and future. Without the past, I never was.
Memories are like a map. It directs my path to my destination. Without a memory, where have I been.
Love is like a strong magnet. It continues to pull you back and holds onto joy, pleasures, and contentment. Love is everlasting. Love continues to grow from the past.
To sum it up, past is only a time. It was, it is, and it will be.

What a beautiful and thoughtful answer, Richard. I always love getting a guy’s perspective on these prompts. (Guys aren’t quite as gabby as us gals! 😀 )

First, I’m hanging onto the message from last week’s prompt, I haven’t finished deciphering it yet but the ‘just create’ was loud and clear 😉 Back soon enough with a post for this week’s challenge… not sure about the review, but looking forward to the extra Thursday excercise 🙂
