Today I’m feeling rather REMINISCENT. (Now before you wag your finger and say that’s not the correct usage of the word, one of the synonyms is nostalgic according to Thesaurus.com, so I figure I can get away with it. But for those of you who insist it isn’t correct — any English teachers out there? — I will also say…) Today I feel like REMINISCING.
Merriam-Webster says:
`
Simple Definition of reminiscent
: reminding you of someone or something else : similar to something else
: thinking about the past : having many thoughts of the past

You see it was 44 years ago today at 6:30 p.m. that Lord Drollery and I got hitched and I became Lady Calensariel of Wits End Cottage! (We had a bit of a debate over whether it should be Cottage or Manor. Cottage sounded easier to keep clean since his title didn’t come with servants!) . 😀
We had always intended to renew our wedding vows on our 25th anniversary, but when my dad passed away in February that year, well, it just took the heart out of us. But ten years later on our 35th we had a freakin’ wonderful blowout!!! Renewal service (where our kids stood up with us), an actual reception with cake and the whole nine yards, and afterward we provided a wonderful dinner at a local artisan restaurant for 35 of our closest friends who had helped to support us through the years. THAT was awesome!
So today I’m just going to share some things from that renewal service. (The pictures are not the best as I took them with my cell phone from our anniversary album, but the pages were too big to fit on our scanner.)
`
The front of our invitation.
It came as a bit of a surprise
that we didn’t exactly fit
in that stupid photo booth anymore.
They must be making them smaller these days!
(As an interesting aside, our kids
have never seen their dad without a beard!)
`
(That woman had NO fashion sense n 1972.
A leopard print and a striped beanie? OML!!!)
`
The front of our ceremony program.
`
A Celtic Blessing for our friends.
`
`
At the dinner afterward.
I might have had a little too much
champagne by that time! , 😀
`

`
This is the song that was playing as we lit our
anniversary candle and the service ended.

Thanks so much for the well-wishes and for stopping by. I found your comment very interesting! We’re going to the UK next year, and while we have our passports, I still wonder what to expect.

Thank you, my dear. We don’t tend to celebrate much. That’s why that 35th anniversary thing was such a big deal to me. But we do go out to dinner and have a bottle of wine. That was nice. We went to Texas Roadhouse for a steak.

44 years! Yikes, guys…CONGRATS on that! I barely made it to three years. But then, I didn’t marry into a manor or a cottage.

It looks for like a gardening shed at the moment. After 18 years of Drollery going to school part time to get his degree, we have a LOT of maintenance to attend to! Just put in a new furnace and central air and got all the plumbing fixed. We’re on a roll! 😀

First one in his family to ever graduate from college. He would have quit any number of times, but I told him I’d kick his arse if he did after I played single parent for so long. Just call me a BITCH! I was waitin’ for the party! 😀

Even THAT feels like forever ago! And it was only nine years ago. Where does the time get away to?

I wish I knew….driving back from the store with Brad earlier…same store where he started out as a cart boy…then quickly moved up to dairy….where Stef started out as a cashier, then moved to the front desk…same store I worked in the bakery…Jim the meat dept…….seems like a whole lifetime ago!!!

Hey Bridget! Good to see you! Wanted to tell you I finally got the book you suggested, “I Lived a Thousand Years.” It’s now on my TBR shelf. Gettin’ closer! 😀

We certainly did, didn’t we, Opher! You just gotta keep things in perspective. Love each other for who you are; forgive each other for who you are not. (And it sure as heck helps to keep a sense of humor!!! 😀 )
