When I read the Daily Post prompt for today I got all excited! While my dad was always singing and playin’ his gee-tar, I was also soakin’ up music from eight different teenaged cousins in the late 50’s. And while I love all the songs I remember, it was watching them dance around the kitchen and dining room at my Aunt’s house that always fascinated me. They loved to dance to The Stroll by the Diamonds. I spent countless hours watching them practice, practice, practice.
As they explain in the video, Dick Clark realized one day that the kids were all doing this particular dance. It seems to me it was originally referred to as The Grapevine, but don’t quote me on that. He suggested to a song writer friend of his that he write a song specifically geared to that dance. And voila! The Stroll was born. The thing I liked about it? It was so easy even at 7-years-old I could do it! Why I bet I could still do it at 64! This may actually have been the first ever line dancing!
So get up off your keister and give it a try! Let me know how you do!
This looks like such great exercise!
Geez these kids look young!!!
