Moonbeams
moonlight falls softly
through open bedroom window
into weary eyes
bidding her to sleep and walk
through the moonbeams to her dreams

After a comment to Jane below, I wished I had gone with my first choice of words, moonbeams instead of doorway. So I changed it. I can do that, right???

So glad I dropped by after you made your revisions. This version is beautiful. I can see why the image captured your fancy – and captured it well, it did. Excellent entrance into the tanka world.

Thanks, LuAnne. I guess I ought to spend some time reading up on the different forms. I’m going to have to get by your place and read some of yours. It’s been awhile.

That’s a really lovely poem! I like the idea of “walk through the moonbeams of her dream.”

So beautiful and peaceful. Wish I had read this last night before I went to bed. Caffeine too late in the day wreaked havoc with my intention of a goods night sleep. This would have helped!

Thanks, hon. I wanted to tell you I finished “I Have Lived A Thousand Years.” I can’t imagine what she must have felt like when the German lady mistook her for an old woman. Though I’ve seen pictures, of course, that was such a HUGE age disparity. Also, I had never read a first-hand account of the trains being strafed. I was floored. Thanks so much for suggesting the book. It was a good addition to my collection.

Not SO different. It was pretty tame, actually, compared to a lot of what I’ve read. But then it was written for young people, too. Makes a difference. If you want to read a simple heart breaker, read “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” by John Boyne. It’s a YP book as well. I don’t remember EVER crying that hard while reading a book… And I loved the movie every bit as much.

I read “The Boy in the striped Pajamas.” It’s a good Holocaust novel. I do have a hard time with fictional Holocaust stories because there are so many true stories that still should be told -if that makes any sense. There were no young children in Auschwitz, they were gassed or killed right away when they were too young to work. So the novel is not even based on real facts.
I think the Hitler regime had been bad enough the way it was, without making stories up. That’s my opinion and I think I might have so strong feelings, because I am from Europe.
I visited Auschwitz when I was in my 20’s and a “friendship” on the fence would have been impossible.

Yeah, I thought about that, too, when I read the book. But I suppose since he wasn’t going into great detail about what was done with the young children and older people he figured it was ok to use a bit of literary license to inform younger readers. It’s ironic when you think about it considering that’s how Hitler began spreading his crap to kids of such a young age — through books. I was so staggered at the Holocaust Museum in DC to see the books the German kids were given to read that were so antisemitic.
Oh, and speaking of “irony”… Some lovely person by the name of Bridget who happens to live in my home state of Ohio sent me the nicest gift today! I was on the phone talking with Fimnora when it came and I laughed so hard when I opened it she wondered what was going on. 😀 Thank you ever so much, you little sweetheart, for the cup and the movie. I am quite touched considering I feel like I drive you nuts most of the time. LOL
I am so glad you’re a part of my life, Bridget. You have expanded my understanding of many things in so many ways. You are a true blessing and I am very glad I met you on here. Thank you for just being the beautiful woman you are. ❤ ❤ ❤

This is just lovely – reminds me of a period in my life when I used to pretend that dreams were reality, and my waking life was no more than a bad dream…

I didn’t have a crappy life growing up, but I admit it was definitely escape I was thinking of when I saw that picture. Sometimes pictures just do that for ya, don’t they?

They do – that picture could be one of my older girls, making a secret wish to the man in the moon…

I couldn’t decide whether to use window or moonbeams. I must have just sat and looked at the poem for half an hour before I picked one. LOL

I experience that, too. There’s just something about the moon that draws me. I can see it as I lie in bed. I never want to go to sleep while it’s still in sight.
