The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places that you’ll go. (Dr. Seuss)
On Harula’s GLADvent Calendar today she asks how learning has shown up in our life: did we learn it or teach it, or was it a conscious choice or lesson we were willing to claim and grow from?
Well, I haven’t written my post for the Sandbox Writing Challenge this week about acceptance, passivity, and resignation, but I’ve thought a LOT about it since I posted the prompt. A lot about acceptance in particular because I’m beginning to realize that until I can recognize and accept certain things I struggle with in my life for what they are, I am never going to be able to change them.
I’ve been very fortunate to have a friend who hasn’t been scared off by my quirkiness and has challenged me to honestly look at why things happen in my life. The main thing being I’m a bloomin’ control freak… 😦 It’s a big lesson for me to learn because it got all mixed in with helping folks and I’ve found it very confusing. But the fact is, I’m realizing that sometimes I bring dumb stuff on myself. And as hard as that is to “claim”, I’m LEARNING…
As to the Dr. Seuss quote Harula chose for today, it reminded me of another one of my favorites about KNOWING…
The more a man knows, the more he forgives. (Confucius)
I think it’s safe to say that being open to LEARNING is the key to not only accepting ourselves, but others as well.
