The best way not to feel hopeless is to get up and do something. (Barack Obama)
I wouldn’t have expected to find the word WORK on Harula’s GLADvent Calendar. But the truth is Christmas is a LOT of WORK most of the time. And I DO feel hopeless when we’ve dragged out dozens of boxes of ornaments and decorations and they’re scattered all over the house. I’ve been known to get downright depressed about it all the day after Thanksgiving.
WORK, however, is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, Jerome K. Jerome, English writer and humorist best known for the comic travelogue Three Men in a Boat, said:
It is impossible to enjoy idling thoroughly unless one has plenty of work to do.
I guess I’m going to have to agree with both Obama AND Jerome on this one. The cure for my feeling hopelessly overwhelmed by Christmas decorations is definitely to get off my keister and DO something about it. Otherwise there’s just no way I’m going to ENJOY the IDLING of sitting here in the dark with a cup of hot chocolate, listening to Christmas music while looking at the beautiful tree lights if I don’t put the WORK into “getting the glitter on” for Christmas.
