Welcome back to Day 2 of the April A to Z Challenge! So how did you do with the Letter A? Did it give you “paws” for thought? How many of you got it? It was:
[The] Adventures of Rin Tin Tin!
For those of you who never had the pleasure of seeing it, here’s a snippet to whet your whistle, then on to Day 2!
`
`_____________________________________________________________
`
Are you ready to give it another go?
`
This TV show was one of my teenage fantasies! What girl wouldn’t have wanted three big brothers to dote on her and watch her back? With the widowed mama being a force to be reckoned with, you didn’t mess with this wild West family! Set in California’s San Joaquin valley, the story was based loosely on the Hill Ranch, which was located at the western edge of Calaveras County, not far from Stockton. The series ran from September 1965 to May 1969.
Now! Can you…

I don’t believe I ever watched Rin Tin Tin, but I have heard of it. Today’s entry, however, I watched all the time with my grandparents, I know exactly what it is. (We also watched Bonanza and High Chaparral, Gunsmoke, Rawhide when it was on in syndication, Little House on the Prairie…)

That’s what happens when you’re raised by your grandparents. 😛 I grew up watching John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Roy Rogers, and all the classics. We even watched the Andy Griffith Show, Leave It To Beaver (in syndication of course), and whatever else we could get on the Farmer 5 (CBS, NBC, ABC, Channel 55 out of Fort Wayne, Channel 4) and PBS which for us was Channel 49 out of Muncie. And of course this is back when you had to have the top dial turned to Channel 2 so that you could use the UHF dial below it and turn to whatever channel you were trying to get, way before remote controls for TVs and a lot of shows were still in black and white, or maybe that was just our TV. 😛 We also watched Lawrence Welk and Hee Haw on the weekends, and would watch Bob Ross paint his “happy little trees” in the afternoons.

Oh my Lord! So many memories for me in your comment. Hey, here’s a question for you! There was a show about a guy who I THINK was taken in and raised by Indians that came on either right before or right after the polka meister. You wouldn’t happen to remember THAT one, would you?

Omigosh, I’m 0-for-2. I thought I was gonna be nails at this. Instead, I’m the opposite! I’m not giving up though. I’ve still got a few hours left in Day Two… Is that Jeopardy! music I hear playing? My time is dwindling… Noooooooooooooo

Oh I’m hoping its [ 😉 ]. I loved that show. it was one of the few I got to watch when I stayed at my Grandma’s house as a kid and it sure beat watching her soap operas. 😀

Your comment brings up an interesting point. I, too, had a disdain for Soap Operas. And yet all these TV shows I watched then and now are just soaps in another form. I wonder why we feel there’s a difference? Maybe because each story is self-contained? I’m so glad you commented, Jean. That was interesting.

I am thinking [ 😉 ] with Barbara Stanwyck as the head. Lee Majors and Linda Evans in the cast…I could be wrong:) Rin Tin Tin was the most famous dog of the 1920’s who, it may seem, won the first oscar but they felt it was wrong to give it to a dog so it went to the runner up-Emil Jannings

No kiddin’? Well that really sucks! Have they EVER given an Oscar to a critter then? How interesting!

Does not sound like a series I watched. If I did I do not remember. After I guessed Lassie for A, I went to bed and remembered that Lassie was owned by Timmy and Rin Tin Tin was owned by Rusty. Can’t keep my dogs straight.

That leaves me with a question, Denise. I wonder how many series there have actually been with animals as the main stars. That might deserve a blog!

I don’t think I can name the series…
But I do remember watching Rin Tin Tin when I was a kind. It was one of my favourite shows, because you know… dogs 😉
I haven’t seen it again since.

I still get attached to shows about dogs. Isn’t it curious that we don’t do shows about cats! LOL Is that because they are definitely NOT man’s best friend. We’re just wait staff to them… 😀

I always wanted at least one brother, but didn’t fantasize about living in that era. I lived in cowboy country, actually, and my dad was a rancher.
