After some electrical stimulation yesterday, my head is no longer floping’ around like a rag doll’s!!! So I consider this blog post a test to see whether it did or didn’t help the problem! And just a warning! if you have to spend any time in a hospital, watch out for those man-eating beds!!! They really CAN hurt you. 😦 )

So! To the matter at hand! I had great fun with this challenge last year. It was my first time and blogging was still pretty new to me. “Me” being the operative word there. I ended up using a somewhat self-centered subject — my emotions. I wrote a little example of each. THIS YEAR, however I came to the challenge with a whole different perspective. I wanted to get others involved, not just have them read. So we played a game —

And though my window for choosing TV shows (1951-1971) was kind of “way back” it was fun to see how many younger folks had seen my favorite series in syndication. So many folks left comments consistently over the month that it gave me a chance to get to know them. I followed MANY of them. 😀

Here are a few (though I think I may miss some folks from Blogger/Blogspot as they don’t show up in my Reader). Their blogs were all wonderful and I hope you’ll go and check them out!

Probably the most fun I had was making my list of shows I loved, seeing what genres they were and how much time I spent in those “worlds.” It broke down like this:

Westerns/Adventures: 36 programs for 28% of my viewing time
Dramas/Police Procedurals: 19 at 15%
Comedy/Variety: 37 at 29%
Alien Mystery/Scifi: 13 at 10%
Family: 22 at 17%

I found those statistics interesting. And I believe they shaped both my dreams and my reality because as much as I wanted to be an adventurer (my first choice when I was in elementary school was archaeologist!), I had a really strong pull in the “perfect, Father-Knows-Best” scenario due to some things going on at home. It appears, however, that to avoid choosing I dwelt in the land of entertainment. I’d bet my sweet bippy if I were to do the same thing with programs I watch today, the Bingo card would look much the same. I might have to give it a try.

So in the end the challenge really gave me something to reflect on. That was a surprise for me. I would STILL likely choose family over adventure, but as my family peels off in their own life directions, who knows WHAT might happen!!! Maybe I’ll learn to ride a horse! 😀

As to the challenge itself, I think it’s the perfect way to get to know the old and new neighbors in the hood! Blog hopping is fun and informative, and you never know when you might find a kindred spirit! Arlee Bird and his team do a fantastic job of herding everyone in the right direction (not the kind of herding cows do!). They’re always ready and willing to answer questions. I have to say, Arlee, I liked the way you did it this year with just having to add your link to the current post. it was a lot less stressful and saved hunting all over folks’ blogs for that A to Z post. Well done!

So I hope you’ll think about joining in next year. I already have my theme picked out! (Though a particular theme isn’t necessary.) If you’re interested in learning more about the A to Z Challenge, you can find all the info here: A to Z Challenge.

Thanks, you guys, for a wonderful experience! Again!

(PS. If I screwed up anyone’s link to their blog, please leave me a comment so I can fix it. Thanks. 🙂 )
