Howdy! It’s Wednesday! And I found a little question I thought was HIGHLY appropriate for this time in our country’s history. (And if you’re from a different country, feel free to use your own situation!) Here it is…

If you were elected to be the leader of the United States tomorrow, what would be your first act?

There are sure a lot of things I could choose to do that might impact the social climate in a productive way. But I had to ask myself what I thought would make the most difference in the long term. And this may seem like a silly answer, but I’m not sure it is.
I would pass an act that requires every single person who registers to vote to take a VERY comprehensive class in civics (with no language barrier) because most of us in this country don’t have a clue how the bloomin’ government operates. It would cover everything: the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the branches of the government and how they work together, how the states work with the federal government, and what the heck is up with being able to tack crap onto bills going through the process that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BILL!!! That should be illegal!
Why? Because if we don’t start educating people, we’ll never learn from our mistakes and be able to make wise decisions. Does that seem like a wasted FIRST ACT?

Impromptu Promptlings 
I worked in government most of my life and dealt with the press a lot. Unfortunately, the folks who are reporting on government often have no idea what the law says or what the rules are. One news editor thought I needed a boss and when I explained that elected officials report to the public and not a ‘boss’, he thought that was stupid. I could write a book but I’d rather not develop an ulcer.

Your first act struck a chord with me. Our government is (amongst other crimes) systematically destroying the National Health Service, and yet millions of people who rely on it voted that same government back in – because they haven’t got the foggiest what each party stands for, and can’t be bothered to find out. Add twisted media coverage to the mix, and you get toxic election results.

Transparency in politics. Accountability to the people whom they are serving – us the public. A level paying field – that is politicians will have the SAME entitlements, wage structures, super-annuation etc etc as everybody else. No perks. They get paid to do a job. They will have regular reviews to ensure they are meeting the benchmarks of their jobs. No hidden perks – they get what they are entitled to as part of the job. That. is all.

I would place into effect, a law in which those who decide to NOT vote are fined. AND I would make ALL election days on Sunday. I would also have a single-payer medical plan. Yup! I would! Then I would make serious fines to all corporations who outsource their employees. There are millions of Americans without jobs and we need to hire our unemployed before we outsource to other countries. Then, I would make sure all religious entities pay taxes. After all, pastors (fake ones) like Joe Olsteen are making billions off people and running around tax-free. Taxing these bozos may make them a bit more humble. Besides, you want salvation? Get on your knees and pray to the real God–and he doesn’t charge for the help!
Next up. I would pass a bill that makes all corporations hire the over 50 crowd–and there will be more serious fines to pay if I find out that ageism plays a part in the elders not being hired.
Oops! School is opened! I would see to it that our children are not only getting a better public school education–perhaps with the fines from the lazy asses who don’t want to vote can go towards education. Anyway, the kids need better meals. The stuff in the schools is crap. We will take a lesson from the French.
I would also make it a point to try to rebuild abandoned buildings and turn them into housing–and I would revamp FEMA.
Global warming is a big deal to me so I would call a meeting of all world leaders.
ANd lastly. I would take Donald Trump and LOCK HIM UP. For good!

Currently CEOs earn around 204 times what his or her median worker earns. I would make it capped at 100 times (which of course lower the pay for executives beneath the CEO). Therefore if the CEO pay only increases if the the worker wages are increased. And if the President could make the country a single payer health care system, I would slip that into the bill, too)

I think that is an excellent idea. My own idea would be similar. Unbiased thorough information on Brexit, given to all voters in the UK. There would be a help line set up with qualified unbiased experts who would be on hand to answer any Brexit questions. Then a revote. Most folk didn’t have a clue what they were voting for and many were carried away with the negative PR.

I find it so interesting that our countries are struggling so simultaneously — one country very ancient and the other very young. And still we make the same mistakes again and again.
