Since I probably could get in big trouble for using the title of Roberta Allen’s book for this challenge, we’ll skip the jail time and fine and go straight to our own title, The Sandbox. If you’ve read my About Impromptu Promptlings page you know I’ve done a fair bit of spelunking in the Cave of my Soul, as I like to call it. You all have a cave, too. But since the goal of this book is to find our playful writing energy, I figured digging in a sandbox would work just as well. We can still have a good time getting dirty!

sand bucketI hope this turns out to be lots of fun and even educational. Having journaled my way through a similar book before, I know there can be surprises, mysteries, disappointments, and even dead ends along the way. But there can also be some big Ah Ha! moments! So don’t be frightened. We’re right here playing beside you. And you’ll have your own colorful spelunking tools sand bucket and shovel to help you with your excavating digging into the deep caverns of your soul the nitty gritty of your life!

Please write your response on your own blog and include a pingback to Impromptu Promptlings. (If you’re not sure how to do that, just copy this link: Sandbox Writing Challenge 2018 — Exercise 1, and be sure to paste it at the beginning or ending of your blog post. It will leave a link to your blog in the comments section of this post so we can all share in your wonderful discoveries.)

crayonsNow don’t fancy it all up, and don’t labor over it for hours. This is suppose to be spontaneous. So if you find you’re dawdling or writing a novelette, it might be helpful to dust the sand off your notebook tabletlaptop PC coloring pad and set a timer for 15-20 minutes and then stop. (If you break your pencil or have worn the points off all your crayons, there are more in the supply cabinet. 😀 )

If you missed the little loosening-up exercise last week, you can go here to join in.

Ok! All set to get started? Shovels ready? Here we go!

You find yourself in a quiet room looking at your reflection in this beautiful old mirror. What do you see? Is there anything in particular you like about yourself? Is there anything you don’t like? Tell us about it.
