Thank you for posting this. As a former politician I can say the math is absolutely correct. I actually had two separate discussions about this yesterday. As I told both of them, I can say with absolute certainty that I never did any favors for anyone because they were a supporter of mine. I always tried to do what was right – and that is why the state party would not support me for higher office.

As a non-profit business man, I am very bad at politics and especially worried about the quid pro quo attitude that sometimes pops up. Maybe elected officials should pass a test on Montesquieu’s spirit of laws or Aquino’s Summa Theologica before assuming their mandates, or even before adding their name to a list.

I’ve often thought that politicians here in the states need to be able to pass the same citizenship test that immigrants do to enter the country legally. How many of them, I wonder, could do that? I’m pretty sure I couldn’t!

Thanks for letting me roam in Utopia for a little while longer Ariel. Politicians need to be held to higher standards than citizens, but even citizenship shouldn’t be taken for granted.
