Requiem for a Moth

even in death it
clings to the dimming window
drawing in its last
glimpse of life-giving light, then
folds its wings in surrender…

When I opened the curtains this morning I found a small moth that had lost its battle to find its way outside into the light again. It made me feel sad. Better that, though, I thought, than being zapped in a bug zapper — or was it… When I got on Google to look at pictures of moths, I was astounded by their camouflage. What amazing works of nature they are!
