Well, I’ve seen the “Elvis” movie twice now and am totally caught up in his history. I thought Austin Butler (Elvis) and Tom Hanks (Col. Tom Parker) were fabulous and deserve Oscars. Butler had Presley’s voice down pat. I was very impressed, and he could move just like him.
The movie did solve one mystery for me. I always wondered why Parker would never let Elvis go on a world tour. Turns out Parker had immigrated from Holland but had never become a citizen. Had anyone found out, he could have been deported. He had no papers of citizenship . Thus he couldn’t accompany Elvis on a tour. He was too controlling to let Elvis go without him.
Anyway, I have fallen in love with the movie and the music (which I already loved). All in all it was a sad movie. That man had a HUGE whole in his heart. And yet in some ways the movie wasn’t strictly about him. It was also about how he changed the music culture in America. Can’t wait for it to come out on DVD.
Have any of you seen the movie? Are there any other Elvis fans out there? AND did any of you ever see him in concert?
My three favorite Elvis songs are “Are You Lonesome Tonight?”, “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You,” and “Unchained Melody” (his last recording). My favorite movie? “Blue Hawaii.”
Now how about you? Got a favorite movie or a song or two?

Great movie. My uncle produced three of Elvis’ movies. We have some one of a kind memorabilia.

I don’t think I have a favourite song. There are 31 songs on the album 30 #1 Hits (go figure – someone can’t count) and another 30 on the album 2nd to none. All 61 are songs I love to listen to, especially when I’m out walking because they have a great beat to keep me moving at the right pace. Anyway, if I had to pick just one – I’d say “Don’t Cry Daddy”, it breaks my heart every time.

I was 19 when Elvis died. Was well aware of his music, and I even listened to some of his earlier work on the “oldies” station. I thought the movie was excellent, and Austin Butler!!! Phenomenal. (Hanks was, as usual, brilliant). I do hope younger people will see the film, if only because they know of Austin Butler. It was truly the best movie I’ve seen so far this summer.

I agree about it being the best movie. My sister looks at me as if I am weird because I talk about it/Elvis/Austin Butler all the time. She just missed out on that golden age of cultural renewal.
Have you seen Butler’s interview with Jimmy Fallon?
