Shifting my focus a bit today to one of the folks behind the music of movies. (And I realized while I was doing this post I don’t know of a single woman composer of soundtracks! So if anyone else does, please enlighten me!)
Hans Zimmer
Hans Florian Zimmer (born 12 September 1957) is a German composer and music producer. Since the 1980s, he has composed music for over 150 films. His works include The Lion King, for which he won Academy Award for Best Original Score in 1994, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, The Thin Red Line, Gladiator, The Last Samurai, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, and Interstellar.
Zimmer spent the early part of his career in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States. He is the head of the film music division at DreamWorks studios and works with other composers through the company that he founded, Remote Control Productions.
Zimmer’s works are notable for integrating electronic music sounds with traditional orchestral arrangements. He has received four Grammy Awards, three Classical BRIT Awards, two Golden Globes, and an Academy Award. He was also named on the list of Top 100 Living Geniuses, published by The Daily Telegraph. Impromptu Promptlings 
Oh!!! Hans Zimmer!!! I LOVE his work!!!! Of course all are so amazing. I first came across his music watching Iron Chef, which used the soundtrack from Backdraft as its open and closing, another other incidental music!!! We call our place of cooking, Kitchen Stadium. 🙂

Backdraft was actually very good! Oddly, I only saw it after Iron Chef, (the original) so I identify the music with that, rather than the movie, but still, either way, the music is wonderful!

Come to think of it, I can’t think of a single film score composer who is female. I love Zimmer though. The Lion King is my absolute favourite. I almost teared up just watching your video.

I need to get me an MP3 player and download HOURS of soundtracks… Sigh…So much music, so little time. I wonder what it would be like if we put together a playlist that was the soundtrack of our life…

That would take a lot of effort…..to really try and find the song that resonates with the emotional turmoils,..the happier times would be easier, I think!

He is that. These men are our Bachs and Beethovens. I don’t think people look at it that way very often. There are so many contemporary composers I love. James Horner and Basil Pouldouris to name a couple. I was saddened to learn that James Horner was killed in a plane crash in June of this year (I think it was June). I’ll have to do a post on him.

I’ve always thought that if Tchaikovsky had lived 100 years later he’d have been the greatest film composer ever. Not just the ballets, which are dramatic by definition, but the symphonies and concertos too – really strong, powerful themes.

I do love his stuff. I can hum the Nutcracker all the way through, and his lordship is partial to Swan Lake! Go figure! I’ve always loved Song of India by Tommy Dorsey and remember being really surprised to find it was from an aria of Rimsky-Korsakov’s. And there is an old movie I loved called Counterpoint with Charlton Heston as a symphony conductor whose bus of musicians is captured by the Germans. There was some amazing classical music in it. I fell in love with Brahms’ 2nd symphony in that movie. Ever seen it?
