So Fim did a special The Red Road edition over at the Monday Musical Medicine Show today. It’s not really a challenge. She was showcasing the music from an album she finds very healing. I hope you’ll go have a listen. I’d never heard the artist before. It’s Bill Miller, a First Nations musician whose music tells stories of the tragic Trail of Tears, and of hope for a better future. It’s very touching. Especially if you know anything about that horrid time in our country’s history.

It got me thinking about whether I know any songs I feel are really healing. I do. But I’ve used them on here before. So I went on a hunt and happened to stumble across one by an artist I’ve only recently been introduced to, Leonard Cohen. Had never heard this before, but I love the Celtic tone of the song, and the words are beautiful. So I figured I’d go ahead and put it up for today. I’m finding there are an awful lot of Cohen fans out there!

“Come Healing”

O gather up the brokenness
And bring it to me now
The fragrance of those promises
You never dared to vow

The splinters that you carry
The cross you left behind
Come healing of the body
Come healing of the mind

And let the heavens hear it
The penitential hymn
Come healing of the spirit
Come healing of the limb

Behold the gates of mercy
In arbitrary space
And none of us deserving
The cruelty or the grace

O solitude of longing
Where love has been confined
Come healing of the body
Come healing of the mind

O see the darkness yielding
That tore the light apart
Come healing of the reason
Come healing of the heart

O troubled dust concealing
An undivided love
The Heart beneath is teaching
To the broken Heart above

O let the heavens falter
And let the earth proclaim:
Come healing of the Altar
Come healing of the Name

O longing of the branches
To lift the little bud
O longing of the arteries
To purify the blood

And let the heavens hear it
The penitential hymn
Come healing of the spirit
Come healing of the limb

O let the heavens hear it
The penitential hymn
Come healing of the spirit
Come healing of the limb
