a-year-with-rilke-daily-readings-from-the-best-of-rainer-maria-rilke_1558930I’m reading the book A Year With Rilke: Daily Readings from the Best of Rainer Maria Rilke devotionally every morning. The poem from today kind of blows my mind because for as much as I’ve always said I want to see light come into all the world, for everyone to be enlightened and the world be full of love, there is no denying that what Rilke says in this poem is true. Especially, I believe, in this historic period we’re living through now.

It has given me a lot to ponder. Figured I’d ask you what YOU thought about it!

To Darkness

You, darkness, of whom I am born —
I love you more than the flame
that limits the world
to the circle it illumines
and excludes all the rest.
But the dark embraces everything:
shapes and shadows, creatures and me,
people, nations — just as they are…
