Right now I should be doing my assignment for Writing 101 which is to talk about your favorite food when you were growing up. Trouble is, I didn’t HAVE a favorite food — which turned into a problem years later! So while I’m thinking about that post today, I’m off to go do some visiting. I have four ladies I visit a couple times a month through our Care Group ministry at church. They have been such a blessing to me. There’s:
Patricia – 74
Donna – 84
and
Mona – 87
They have taught me so much and given my life such a purpose since I’ve been doing this. If you’ve never known what it feels like to have someone be truly grateful for you, find someone who is lonely and sit down with them for an hour. The blessings you will get out of it are far more than theirs. I can guarantee that.
Anyway, after posting “Where Have All The Flowers Gone” on my post yesterday I was just in the mood to hop over and hang out on my Music of My Life pin on Pinterest. Ended up listening to this song by Michael Crawford a few times. It really is all about why I do what I do. Thought I’d share…

This work you do is so wonderful Calen! Such a blessing to your ladies and to us who are inspired by it.

Seems to me YOU put in a fair amount of “volunteer” hours about everyday, too! Just not with senior citizens. Smile. Shouldn’t you be taking it easy, my dear? Is the hubby home this weekend to wait on you hand and foot?

I think that is a most awesome way to spend time. When I was working before I got married, my main area was home health care. It was always with the geriatric population. I’ve done earlier work in nursing homes, and then found my way to working in the home environment, which I preferred because I had time to spend time with the person for whom I was caring. I’ve been lucky enough to meet some of the most amazing, wise women during this time.
I’m so glad you have this, and I know that they are all very lucky to have you visit them! You are a blessing, whether you can see it, or not. 🙂

Oh, I know they look forward to it. If it didn’t make ’em happy I wouldn’t be doing it. They’re dolls, all of them, and they’ve taught me a lot about the process of getting old and dying. Yeah, I lost one last year.

Hopefully. But I draw the line at cleaving animals in half and walking down through them to make a contract with God! Besides, half the time he and I aren’t even speaking these days… (rolls eyes…)

There are so many beautiful and encouraging passages of scripture. Why you would choose that particular story as where you draw the line seems strange to me. Oh, and by the way, that eye roll … God heard that, ya know. Which pretty much qualifies it as a prayer : )

Seriously I was just trying to be funny. Didn’t God tell Abraham that he was blessed to be a blessing? (Course it’s entirely possible that it’s been so long since I read that passage that I have no clue whether it’s there or not. LOL) (Really? You think God saw that, huh? Am I in trouble…again?) 🙂
