My son Brandon (38) and I have been sitting here talking about the morning’s news. Specifically Trump’s possible involvement with Putin. Out of the blue he made a comment that stopped me in my tracks. He said:
I wonder what would happen if in the next world war Trump has gotten us all tangled up with Putin and WE end up being the bad guys.
`
I’m still trying to get my head around it. How would YOU respond to that???

I have a feeling that’s where we are headed anyway. Fascism is never on the right side of history and he is leading us down a fascist road. Scary to think that we could some day be viewed as unfavorably as the Italians and Germans from WW2.

It makes me wonder if we’re already viewed that way. What you read on here from folks in other places isn’t very positive sometimes…

That’s true.. but that’s what happens when you allow corporations and banks rule your country like we do. We go to war (overt and covert) with other countries for their resources and then act like we are superior

There is bad and good in all corners of the world, including our corner.

You’re right, of course… Maybe us naive folks need to take our blinders off and register for a course in reality? 😦

I have family in Russia, and go there on vacation with the kids sometimes. So I’d like to point out that their news outlets present Russian soldiers as heroes who fight for the liberty of the Syrian people, which really reminded me of how the American media presented US soldiers during the war in Iraq. I feel like there are no “baddies”, it’s all about different points of view and state propaganda. Liberty seems like such a vague word, with no clear definition, at least in the way it is used in our modern world.
But I agree with your son in that if Trump tangles us up in another big war, people are definitely going to react very negatively to the United States’ invasive politics. His question is the answer to my mother’s (rhetorical) question: “Don’t be too upset, Trump won but we’ll survive. After all, we survived Bush’s presidency, didn’t we?”. What she forgot is that we are still paying the heavy consequence of the war in Iraq. And what’s scary is that Trump can get us into deeper sh*t than that.

You make some good points. And the truth is we could just be in trouble with China because of Trump’s lack of knowledge of our policies and agreements. I know a lot of us think the government here needs overhauled, but destroying it was NOT the way to go about it. And he appears to be hell bent on that with or without anyone’s help!

I totally agree! I hear people say all the time: “But Trump is anti-establishment!” Except Trump isn’t anti-establishment, he’s more of a “hey-how-can-I-make-personal-profit-out-of-this” type of guy.

There’s always two sides to every coin. It’s all in the eye of the beholder. I’m putting my energy, thoughts and hopes into the corner that sees a united world where all are equal, no-one is disadvantaged or goes without. Some might think that naive but I don’t wear rose-coloured glasses. However, I try my utmost to focus on the vision and pray for it to emerge rather than allow myself to be immersed in fear. That, for me, is far too stressful and draining.

Stressful and draining are sure two words I’d use for the climate here right now. Found out today someone/group has been plastering white supremacy fliers all over the University of Maryland campus and vandalizing their buildings. Stef and Jesse live right on the edge of the UoM campus. That definitely makes me feel stressed and drained… I so wish they’d move back here.

It’s a scary, turbulent time that’s for sure. That’s why I feel it’s even more important to focus on the positive and send out bucket loads of Love everywhere. I know that’s so hard to do when you’re immersed in it. Which makes it all the more important for those of us who can to up the volume 🙂

Totally agree here. It’s not a rose-coloured glasses thing either, it’s more a case of ‘how the hell did we get in this mess and isn’t it time for a very big spring clean?’

There are two sides to every story and I believe that in some nations we already are a conquering nation. Our political system tends to be very aggressive in its thinking that its way is “the right way” and other countries should adopt it. It’s part of the reason why Cuba and other countries have broken ties with us. Not saying anything’s right or wrong, just playing the Devil’s Advocate. What jumped out at me about your son’s statement was the “if in the next war” he didn’t phrase it as, “if there were another world war.” I’m with him in worrying that careless politics are undeniably leading us to another huge war 😦

You make some very good points. Thank you for your comment. I’m in that boat, too. I’m very much afraid of that and what it might mean for our grandkids.

Your post title and cup of coffee got my attention. I smiled thinking this read will be a good one. The statement presented by your son pushes me to avoid the statement and close my laptop. (laugh) This is a great matter to consider. I have no answers…but my heart aches.
What an awesome son you have!! Great post.

Yeah. He’s pretty ok. He also has a history minor from his college days so he’s really into this whole warped election! LOL I loved your response! Me, too!!!

We’re already the bad guys! Talk to most of the world and they hold the West responsible for the wars and economic empire building that results in extreme poverty and death. No doubt about it. Our standard of life comes out of the blood and sweat of others. The super-rich pull the strings and we vote them in.

Well that’s true enough. But I think he was referring more to joining up with Russia and becoming a conquering nation. That’s my guess anyway.
